GREAT BLUE HERON, WEBER BAY, GREAT SALT LAKE
The Great Blue Heron is one of my favorite waterfowl, so it felt like a sign when I spotted one on that glorious morning. These herons thrive in both freshwater and saltwater habitats and also forage in grasslands and agricultural fields. Most breeding colonies are located within 2 to 4 miles of their feeding areas. Great Blue Herons will eat anything within striking distance, including fish, amphibians, reptiles, small mammals, insects, and other birds. They primarily nest in trees, but will also nest on the ground, in bushes, in mangroves, or on artificial nest platforms. (Information from All About Birds)
