SHELL AND ALL
Yellow Crowned Night Heron eating a Mangrove Root Crab, Black Point, Flamingo, Everglades National Park. I had come upon this Yellow Crowned Night Heron earlier and took some photographs of it deep in the Mangrove forest. As I turned back to retrace my steps, I was shocked to see it with a crab in its mouth. It didn’t seem to care about my presence, so I took a seat on the ground and photographed it as it first shook the crab so intensely that I thought the Heron’s head was going to pop off. I was shocked to see it swallow the crab, shell and all. I wouldn’t think that would feel so great as it swallowed it whole, but I’m not a Heron.
