EARED GREBES, BEGINNING
I was tucked in tight, sitting on the ground near the shore of Great Salt Lake off Antelope Island so I could capture some intimate moments with the Eared Grebes, when out in the distance I could see a pair in the beginning of their mating rituals. The Eared Grebes have a very thin bill and bright red eyes. Their favorite food to feast on is the brine shrimp from Great Salt Lake. Fun Note: In the fall, almost the entire population of Eared Grebes flies to Mono Lake, or Great Salt Lake, to fatten up on brine shrimp and alkali flies before migrating south.
