CLIFF SWALLOWS, GREAT SALT LAKE

$400.00

To capture this image I was lying prone on a gravel road because I wanted to capture up close and personal images of the Cliff Swallows gathering mud for their nests on a nearby bridge. Many Cliff Swallows are often found close to shallow water. Both parents help build the nest, although the male may begin construction before attracting a mate. They gather mud, like in this image, in their bills along stream banks, lakesides, or puddles—usually near the colony but sometimes up to a few miles away. They bring back mud pellets and mold them into place with a shaking motion. The finished nest is gourd-shaped and contains 900 to 1,200 individual mud pellets. The pair lines their nest with dried grasses and continues patching it up with mud throughout the breeding season. (Information from All About Birds.)

8.2” x 16” (Horizontal Format) Archival Pigment Print on Pearl Paper - Framed

All Sales Final. Print on demand - add five business days for printing. Free Insured shipping.

The watermark is not on the final image but includes the artist’s signature.
